2023:Ogun residents advised to support security agencies to ensure credible polls

The Ogun state Police Commissioner has met with stakeholders to ensure smooth and peaceful exercise in the state.
The meeting was attended by security chiefs, resident Electoral Commission of the State and representatives of political party.

Residents of Ogun State have been advised to support the security agencies and other stakeholders involved in the preparation for the 2023 general elections.

The Commissioner of Police and the State, Lanre Bankole made this known during the meeting with stakeholders ahead of the next year’s elections.

He noted that the police is working closely with stakeholders, especially the independent National Electoral Commission, to get required data that will allow them to plan for the safety of the people before, during and after the exercise.

He said “5042 polling units will be be manned by at least one police officer.

“It is an enormous responsibility that lies ahead security agencies and that is why the public or the community will have to partner with us in ensuring a rank of free elections.

On the part of the electoral body, the residential electoral commissioner, Niyi Iyalaje wants people to collect their permanent voter cards from the Commission and to keep to the rules guiding the conduct of elections.

He stated that the cards up until January this year are out for collection, and therefore implored those who are yet to collect their cards to do so.

Mr Iyalaje added that the cards were already in the State office and all local government offices, noting that those who registered thereafter up on the closure of registration, the card will be out later by next month.

Other participants want politicians to avoid things that may lead to the breakdown of law and order during the campaigns and after the election.
