Image result for Oil pollution in BayelsaThe Bayelsa State Government has called on everyone, including the international community to join in the advocacy for the protection and preservation of its polluted environment.

At a program, #Rise For Bayelsa, Governor Seriake Dickson lamented the effect of cancer and other diseases as a result of environmental
degradation.

Bayelsa has one of the largest crude oil and gas deposits in Nigeria.

The first commercial oil well in Oloibiri has carved a niche for the state as pioneer site of oil exploration in a country where oil is the mainstay
of the economy.

Over sixty years of the burning of fossil fuel have led to an increase in the emission of green house gasses with health implications to oil
producing communities in the state.

Drama presentations at the #Rise For Bayelsa programme capture the essence of a people’s determination to survive in the face of environmental
challenges and danger to flora and fauna.

The Bayelsa Governor calls for increased advocacy for the protection of the environment on the premise that:

The exploration for oil should not be trouble to the soil.
