Image result for Supreme Court upholds high court ruling on Rivers APCThe Supreme Court, on Friday, upheld the judgement given by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, barring the All Progressives Congress from the general elections in Rivers State.

The Rivers State High Court had annulled the candidature of all the candidates of the Rivers APC in a ruling.  Before this, the same court barred the party from conducting its ward, local government, and state congresses in Rivers State, pending the determination of a suit that was filed by 22 aggrieved chieftains of the party.

The aggrieved party members had on May 11, 2018 secured an interim injunction from a High Court in Port Harcourt, which restrained the APC from going ahead with the indirect primaries that held on May 19, 20 and 21 respectively which produced Mr Tonye Cole as governorship candidate and other candidates to represent the party in the 2019 general elections.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal last week ruled that the Rivers APC could present candidates overruling the judgement of the High Court.

This decision by the Supreme Court means the the Rivers State APC will not present candidates on the February 16th National Assembly elections and the Governorship and House of Assembly elections on March 2nd.
