TVC News Correspondent, Kolomi Dala was in Pulka and reports that it was an epoch making visit by the Borno state Governor and his top aides to war-ravaged Pulka, located near the recaptured Boko haram caliphate headquarters, Gworza.

Thousands of residents watched with great joy and expectation as Governor Kashim Shettima’s convoy entered their Town. Life is gradually returning to Pulka which used to be under the control of  the Boko haram sect.

The residents heaped praises on the army Commander on ground, Colonel Abdulsalam but they also had so much to complain about.

Hadiza Mohammed, a victim spoke in Hausa: “our main problem is lack of potable water, insufficient security  personnel on ground and lack of food. We can’t move 2 km out of Gworza to farm because if we did, Boko haram will kill us.  Our husbands are the most affected. Government should facilitate our free movement,  so that we can  farm or trade and improve our well-being.”

Responding, governor Shettima assures them of prompt response to their complaints : ” In this Town, Pulka, water is the main problem. Is it not so? Immediately I get back to Maiduguri I will make sure I wipe  your tears with regard to the water problem. First of all, I want to immensely thank the GOC and all security men and women protecting you, most especially Colonel Abdulsalam,  the Commander of the soldiers here in Pulka. I have come with the following for you: 1500 bags  of Rice, 1500 bags of Beans, 1500 cartons of Noodles for Children, 1500 cartons of spaghetti.  More will come your way as the situation improves.  ”

The governor’s visit is a great sign of good things to come, for  the people of Pulka.

With improved security in and around their homeland, many indigenes of Pulka who fled the town at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency will hopefully return home to reunite with their families.
