TVC N A fresh oil spill has occurred in twelve communities of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Council Area of Delta State, worsening the already devastated environment and creating panic among residents.

The spill which was said to be massive was learnt to have occurred last Thursday night from a ruptured trunkline suspected to be operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Some of the impacted communities include Ikpokpo, Tebujor, Okpeleama, Meke-Ama, Opuedebubor, Atanba, Oporoza federated communities, Oto-Gbene, Okerenkoko-Gbene, Opuede, Opuede-Zion and Gama-Zion in Gbaramatu Kingdom.

A similar incident had also occurred in the area on August 17, 2016 from the pipeline belonging to the Pipeline and Product Marketing Company which rendered many residents homeless while others deserted their homes for safety.

The affected communities confirmed the fresh spill in a statement signed by Yabrade Moses and Edward Odudu on behalf of Gbaramtu communities and made available to our correspondent in Warri on Saturday.

According to the statement, “However, the fears of the community people came to reality again in the early hours of Friday, the 30th of September, 2016 as crude oil was discovered to be gushing out from the ruptured trunkline when NNPC pumped crude oil through the trunk line from the morning of Thursday, the 29th of September, 2016 to Friday, 30th of September, 2016.

“At the time of issuing this press statement, there is massive spillage of crude oil which is already flowing around all the communities including up to Oporoza federated communities, Gama-Zion community and into the Escravos River.”

They explained that it was the third time such spillage of crude oil into the affected communities was happening whenever crude oil is being pumped through the trunk line.
