TVC N. Niger Delta Avengers have engaged in a violent confrontation with security operatives leading to the death
of one of the militants The militant group operating in the Ohaji/Egbema local council area of Imo State and Imo Security Network operatives faced-off on Wednesday, September 28.
It was reported that, the militants had come out to surrender their weapons but it led to a bloody confrontation. Mr. Andrew Enwerem who is the spokesperson of the Imo state police command confirmed the report.
He said: “The first information report available to the police is that the Avengers were coming to Owerri in about three buses, to peacefully surrender their weapons, when they were confronted by ISN.”
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo had called on militants in the region to surrender their weapon peacefully and some of them have complied. About 200 militants surrendered their weapons to the governor who also welcomed them.
The governor said: “I am here to rescue my children so that there will be no shooting by the Police and Army. I am here also to receive your message and deliver them to the Federal Government. I am speaking to you as a father of the land and assure you of proper reintegration into the society.”
