A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Jigawa State for allegedly killing his father with a machete.
The police said Muhammad Salisu attacked his father, Salisu Abubakar, at their home in Bakin Kasuwa, Sara District of Gwaram Local Government Area.
The 57-year-old victim, a retired soldier, was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu but was confirmed dead on arrival.
His body was later released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Police spokesperson in Jigawa, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation.
He said early findings suggest the attack followed a disagreement over money.
Neighbours and family members say the suspect had asked his father for money, and when he refused, an argument broke out.
This is the second violent incident reported in Gwaram in recent weeks.
A teacher at an Islamic school in the area was earlier arrested for allegedly killing a student and cutting off parts of his body.
The police say they are working to ensure justice is done and to prevent further violence in the community.
