Operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State have arrested a 28-man syndicate for defrauding seventy-two persons, including some Ghanaians seeking to travel abroad for greener pastures.

This comes as the state government reaffirmed the restriction on commercial motorcycle operations from 8p.m to 5 a.m.

Ondo State has witnessed a rise in criminal activities in March, particularly in kidnapping.

This prompted the state government to establish a joint task force codenamed Operation Dada to tackle the menace.

The effort is now yielding results, as the state command of Amotekun has apprehended sixty-one suspected criminals.

The command arrested a syndicate that lure victims, mostly from Ghana, by assuring them of securing visas to travel to the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

Victims’ statements revealed that the syndicate had collected over $144,000 (₦216 million) from them.

The command also arrested another syndicate specialising in kidnapping, human trafficking, and cattle rustling.

The state commander further announced the reintroduction of the restriction order on commercial motorcyclists.
