The radiographer’s registration board of Nigeria says it has doubled its quota to universities in order to balance the manpower needs of the country and make up for the vacuum left behind by the migration of skilled health workforce to other countries.

This formed part of discussions during a familiarisation visit of the minister of state for health and social welfare to the board in Abuja.

This is another round of visit by the Minister of state for health and social welfare, Iziaq Salako to various health regulatory agencies under the ministry.

The Registrar of the board, Mark Okeji says brain drain has weighed in on the health system.

He revealed that the RRBN has found ways to work around the migration of its skilled workforce to other countries.

Data estimates that there are over 4600 radiographers out of which only 2810 renewed their annual licence in 2024.

In his response, minister of state for health and social welfare Dr. Iziaq Salako is now urging that the goal of the regulatory board should be on ensuring that only certified radiographers’ practice in order to end quackery through effective monitoring and tracking.

The board also reeled out its urgent needs to the Minister, who said the president will continue to prioritise the healthcare of Nigerians.
