A mass shooting at a funeral home in Baltimore County, Maryland, killed one person and injured nine others, according to county officials.
Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said officers responded to reports of gunfire on Loch Raven Boulevard around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to Baltimore County Fire Chief Joe Dixon, the incident occurred near Johnson Funeral Home in the suburb of Towson.
An officer arrived at the scene and discovered a burning truck on its side.
McCullough stated that it appears the car was involved in an event that led it to crash and catch fire, but no further information was provided.
The county fire service was alerted, and ten casualties were discovered in the area.
One died from a gunshot wound and nine were injured. According to the police chief, bullets harmed the vast majority of the victims.
The nine surviving patients were taken to area trauma hospitals in uncertain circumstances.
McCullough said the department is determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but said the incident was believed to be targeted and isolated.
There had been no arrests in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday night.
County Executive Johnny Olszewski, who is the Representative-elect for Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District in the United States House, attended the news conference and expressed horror at the fatal shooting.
He also stated that the county is “fully committed” to ensuring that both the police and fire services have full assistance and resources during the ongoing inquiry.
