The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal collision involving a J5 Ford bus (FKJ 724 YC) and a Mercedes truck (FKJ 746 YC) at Ilubirin, inward Sura, along the Third Mainland Bridge.
The accident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday claimed one life and affected five other individuals.
LASTMA officials, led by General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, promptly arrived at the scene to oversee rescue operations.
With assistance from bystanders, four victims were extricated from the wreckage, three of whom were rescued alive.
Tragically, one individual trapped inside the J5 Ford bus, which was laden with pepper and other perishable goods, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the J5 Ford bus suffered a brake failure while traveling at high speed, leading to the collision with the Mercedes truck.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Police Force, and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), worked alongside LASTMA to manage the situation.
Survivors were promptly transported to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for urgent medical care.
