A diverse group of medical professionals has underlined the critical need for improved technical solutions and robust infrastructure to address Nigeria’s rising cancer challenges.
They made the call at a cancer awareness and prevention meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.
These healthcare specialists and stakeholders have come to discuss measures for minimizing the country’s rising cancer incidence, as well as how to handle this issue in Nigerian healthcare.
According to the Nigerian Cancer Society, in 2023 a total number of 79,542 cancer deaths occurred in Nigeria, with male accounting for 32,905 and Female accounting for 46,637 cancer deaths.
Against this backdrop, these medical professionals are urging for a considerable increase in technology advancements and infrastructural investment, among other alternatives, to effectively address the growing cancer cases and improve patient outcomes.
The event, the fifth of its kind, is aimed at boosting cancer awareness to lower the burden of the condition in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
