Youth leaders in the 18 local government areas of Ondo State have expressed concern over resurgence of kidnapping and armed robbery and the need for better synergy among security agencies.
They made their position known at a meeting with the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation.
There have been rising cases in criminal activities across Ondo state recently.
The latest is the abduction of some corps members along the Ifon-Owo-Benin road.
The University community in Akungba-Akoko has also experienced a surge in crimes, most especially robbery.
These issues and others necessitated a meeting, at the instance of the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Orioye Gbayisemore.
At the meeting with indigenous youth leaders across the state, Gbayisemore identified critical roles to be played by traditional institutions and the support they must provide within their communities to curb crimes.
They resolved at the meeting that there must be registration of people moving into the State.
Some residents of the state also expressed their views on the development.
Security experts also called for better synergy among security agencies, improvement in intelligence gathering, as well as provision of sophisticated equipment to tackle rising criminal activities in the state.
