Experts have stated that leveraging data governance for national and regional development is critical.
The statement was made at the Centre for the Study of African Economies, in partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), the African University of Science and Technology, and Baze University.
In the Data Governance event titled “Harnessing Data Governance for National and Regional Development,” experts and other stakeholders gathered to discuss and develop strategies for leveraging data governance to enhance development in Nigeria and Africa.
The conversations highlighted Nigeria’s journey as it relates to digitalisation & data governance, how the African Continental Free Trade Agreement can support data governance, and Nigeria’s AI governance model.
Data Policy Framework, which aims to provide a comprehensive and harmonised approach to data governance, has paved the way for various data governance initiatives, each seeking to maximize the value of data and protect the rights of citizens.
The discussions and knowledge-sharing activities have laid a strong foundation for the road ahead to improve development.
