The Lawmaker representing Imo East senatorial District in the National Assembly , Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The notice of his defection was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and read on the floor of the Senate Chamber.
Senator Ezenwa, who was reelected on the platform of the Labour Party at the last General election says the reason for his defection is as a result of irreconcilable differences within the party.
Governor of IMO State , Senator Hope Uzodinma also visited the Senate chamber to witness the defection and welcomed the Development.
Senator Ezenwa was immediately allotted another seat on the opposite side of the divide in the Senate Chamber to solidify his defection
His defection from the Labour Party now swells the ranks of the APC in the Senate and increased their numbers to 61 ,as they still hold the majority status in the Senate .
The number of political parties represented in the Senate is now 6 .
