A corps member, Nwogu Chinonso, has donated drugs and other consumables worth hundreds of naira to selected Primary Health Care centres in Gusau, Zamfara state capital.

Nwogu, a graduate of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Abia State, carried out the project as part of his personal community development service, CDS

Speaking during the project commissioning held at the Emir’s Palace in Gusau, the State Coordinator of NYSC , Alhassan Abdulsalam lauded the corps member for the initiative

He says the NYSC was originally created to foster unity, peace and development.

The coordinator who was represented by the Assistant Director, Corps Inspection and Monitoring Isaac Maikur emphasized that community development service (CDS) remains the core of the NYSC programme, as it serves as a vehicle to bringing succor to the less privileged.

The Zamfara NYSC Coordinator therefore thanked the Gusau Emirate Council and the sponsors of the project for their support to ensuring that the corps member’s dream of touching lives within the service year was realised.

“The corps member was able to identify the felt needs of his immediate community and reached out partners to make the project a reality. NYSC as an organisation is saddled with the responsibility of reaching out to the hinterlands and so we appeal to well meaning pilantropists, corporate organisations, states and local government areas to sponsor more CDS initiatives by corps members”, he said.

In his remarks, the Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello appreciates the corps member for the good gesture adding that it is timely and will go a long way in reducing challenges faced by women during and after child birth.

The Emir was represented by the Senior District Head, Bashir Ilabir Danbaba

The traditional ruler also encouraged corps members serving in the state to emulate the initiator of the project.

The royal father also used the opportunity to advise serving Corps Members in the state to stay peaceful with their host communities and always adhere to safety protocols.

On his part, the project initiator, Nwogu Chinonso said he was motivated to embark on the project to ease the challenges faced by pregnant women and nursing mothers after a visit to a primary health centre in the state.

He appreciated the NYSC for the opportunity to serve in the North, disclosing that “I was able to be in the North for the first time of my life because of this great scheme. I decided to answer the clarion call with passion, love and humility for the development of our fatherland”.

A representative of one of the benefiting institutions, Mrs Maryam Umar, who is also the officer-in-charge of Kogo Bello Sabongari Primary Healthcare Centre promised that the items will be judiciously utilised.
