President-elect, Masoud Pezeshkian will be sworn in as Iran’s ninth president on July 30, according to a member of the Iranian Parliament’s presiding body.
Mojtaba Yousefi noted that the head of Iran’s Supreme Court, members of the Constitutional Council, the Judiciary chief, and other top political and military figures will attend the swearing-in ceremony.
He stated that the parliamentary law requires the new president to announce his proposals and introduce his ministers within two weeks of his inauguration. The MPs will next spend a week discussing the credentials of the nominated ministers before holding a final session to vote on confidence, he said.
Pezeshkian was voted to Parliament as a representative of the northern city of Tabriz in the March 1 legislative elections.
Following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19, Pezeshkian was one of six final candidates chosen by the Constitutional Council from among 80 aspirants for the president.
He received the most votes in the first round of the presidential election on June 28 and competed against the runner-up, Saeed Jalili, in the runoff election on July 5.
The physician-turned-politician won the runoff with 53.66% of the vote.
