A non governmental group, Make A Difference Initiative, has called on the National Assembly to enact a law that will curb rising cases of avoidable deaths in schools.

It also advised parents to ensure regular medical examinations for their children to detect and manage any potential health issue early to avert sudden tragedy.

In recent times, cases of sudden deaths of pupils and students across secondary schools and higher institutions of learning have become rampant.

In April, a four year old pupil, Miguel Ovoke, died in school during feeding hours.

The tragedy sparked outrage as the parents and sympathisers called for justice.

The yet to be resolved death of the late 100 level student of Veritas University, Joshua Daniel-Ejigbo, is another case in point.

These are just two of the many cases of suddend deaths among pupils and students in schools.

This non governmental group has been a voice to the voiceless.

It says the recurring tragedy should spur concerned citizens to take proactive medical steps.

More significantly, it wants a law enacted to curb the menace.

The group called for continuous vigilance and education on child safety in food preparation, emphasising that the wellbeing of children must always be prioritised.
