Police in Zamfara have denied the reports that armed Bandits had on Tuesday attacked a mosque in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara state and abducted scores of worshippers while observing Tahajjud Prayer.
Spokesperson of the Zamfara Police Command, ASP. Yazid Abubakar said the bandits stormed the area with the intent to abduct a businessman known as Ashiru who refused to be kidnapped but was shot dead by the armed men.
The terrorists according to the police killed Mr. Ashiru, whisked away his wife and his male neighbor to an unknown destination.
ASP Yazid added that no worshipper was kidnapped nor attacked, but rushed out of the mosque due to multiple gunshot in the air.
The incident occurred early hours of Tuesday when the worshippers were still in the mosque.
He said the police have immediately launched manhunt of the perpetrators with the aim of rescuing the two kidnapped victims unhurt.
The police further enjoined residents to to desist from spreading fake news that will worsen the security situation in Zamfara.
