Police in Zamfara have denied stories making the round that armed Bandits had on Tuesday attacked a mosque in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara state and abducted scores of worshippers while observing Tahajjud Prayers.

Tahajjud is special prayer being observed by Muslims during every last ten days of the Holy Month of Ramadan across the globe.

Spokesperson of the Zamfara police Command ASP. Yazid Abubakar says the bandits stormed the area with the intent to abduct a businessman known as Ashiru who resisted the kidnapping attempt and was shot dead by the armed men.

The terrorists according to the police killed Mr. Ashiru, and whisked away his wife and male neighbour to an unknown destination

ASP Yazid adds that no worshipper was kidnapped nor attacked, but rushed out of the mosque due to multiple gunshot fired randomly by the bandits.

The incident occurred early hours of Tuesday when the worshippers were still in the mosque.

He says the police have immediately launched a manhunt for the perpetrators with the aim of rescuing the two kidnapped victims unhurt.

The police further enjoin residents to to desist from spreading fake news that will worsen the security situation in Zamfara.
