Cancer cases globally will hit 35 million by 2050, this is according to the projections of the World Health Organisation.

Concerned by the projection, the Nigerian army officers wives association, (NAOWA) led by the wife of the chief of army staff, organised a forum in Abuja to raise awareness about cancer and advocate for improved access to quality healthcare services.

President of the association and wife of the chief of army staff, Mariya Lagbaja, notes that increased awareness will not only close the care gaps but also reduce the scourge in developing countries like Nigeria

The World Cancer Day Awareness Summit with the theme “Reducing the Scourge of Cancer in Nigeria” was aimed at enlightening and raising awareness among members of the association, military personnel, and other members of the public on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer.

Lectures, questions-and-answer sessions, and a testimony from a cancer survivor provided an eye-opener for those in attendance.

For the chief of administration of the Nigerian Army, early detention is key.

The summit is part of the efforts of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives’ Association to add value to society.
