The Northern Governors Forum, comprised of the governors of the 19 Northern states, has contributed N180 million to the victims of the unintentional bombing at Tudun Biri village in Kaduna State’s Igabi Local Government Area.
The forum’s Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Yahaya, who made the announcement alongside other colleagues, gave a symbolic cheque to the state’s governor, Senator Uba Sani, during their inaugural meeting on Friday.
The meeting was held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna.
The gathering of governors aimed to address issues concerning oil exploration, agriculture, and insecurity in the area. Additionally, they express their sympathies to the governor of the host state regarding the unintentional airstrike that resulted in multiple casualties in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area. The Nigerian Army has taken responsibility for the strike.
This is the first time the governors have gathered since their election in the general elections of May 2023, and it is being hosted by Senator Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State.
Among the governors present at the meeting are the governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, and the deputy governors of Jigawa, Bauchi, Kano, Yobe, and Kwara states, who are representing their state governors.
Addressing his colleagues, the Chairman of the Forum and Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Yahaya, while condemning the accidental bomb on the people of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, noted that more efforts are needed by the regional governors to fight insecurity ravaging the region.
