Five wards, with at least 150 beds, have been shutdown by the management of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, due to lack of Doctors and Nurses, to manage them.

The chairman of the Health Committee of the House of Representatives, Doctor Amos Magaji revealed this to journalists, during the Committee ‘s oversight visit to Tertiary the hospital.

Doctor Magaji attributed the situation to the impact of the huge challenge being posed by brain drain, now popularly coined–the ‘japa’ syndrome, which is ceaselessly fueling the loss of medical personnel across public and private health institutions in Nigeria.

Doctor Magaji says as the Bola Tinubu administration tries to find ways to effective solutions, some strategies are also being put under consideration, to assist LUTH, out of the current situation.

The Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, on his part, is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to support the institution, in its core interest of delivering quality healthcare services, to the people.
