IOM holds activities to foster unity among displaced communities in Adamawa

International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has organised different sporting and cultural activities to foster unity among the internally displaced persons in Gombi local government area of Adamawa state.

The local government is one of the seven councils deserted after invasions by Boko Haram in 2014 but business activities are gradually picking up in some communities.

The Northeast zone of the country has experienced turbulence since the Boko Haram insurgency started in 2009.

The Data released by IOM says over 20000 lives have been lost while more than two million people were displaced.

Gombi local government in Adamawa state is one of the worst hit, after insurgents took over seven local governments in the state before the Nigeria troops liberated it in 2015.

The activities of Boko Haram paralyzed all business activities including farming during the time the outlaw sect held sway

Residents of Gombi local government area are now enjoying peace as business activities are gradually picking up.

This is first sport activities that took place among the residents of the 14 wards comprising the IDPs settlement

The event was organised by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

The chairman of the council area thanked IOM for the gesture, stressing that governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri will always collaborate with any organisation that show interest in the state development.

Apart from this sporting and cultural display IOM recently supported Adamawa state government in settle down the IDPs, by building 195 houses in which 4002 IDPs were settled in Gombi Local government
