Mental health experts are seeking better coping mechanisms for people going through depression and other mental health-related problems.

This formed the crux of discussions at the 2nd annual symposium on mental health in Abuja.

Mental health continues to be neglected in some parts of the world, but it remains an integral part of health and wellbeing of the wider population.

The world health organization estimates that about 450 million people have a mental disorder and 25 percent of the entire population will suffer from mental illness at some time in their lives.

A meeting that took place with the theme: “mental health as a universal human right, a multi stakeholder perspective”, brought up discussions on how to address the stigma that comes with dealing with mental health problems.

With a new legislation put in place to overhaul mental healthcare in the country, experts seek better care for people with mental health illness through the provision of effective support.

Many experts are now pushing for improved mental health services in order to provide better, accessible, and affordable mental health services for mental well being of the entire population who need it the most.
