FUDMA abduction: Parents express anxiety over delay in rescue of female wards
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Parents and a cross-section of education stakeholders in Katsina are concerned about the recent kidnapping of five female students from the federal University Dutsinma (FUD) and its impact on the future of education.

They are of the view that the kidnapping of female students is a direct attack on girl education in the North.

It is the second or third time that students have been abducted in Katsina state in the last two years, owing to the dire security situation that has defied all efforts.

First, over 300 students were abducted from a government science secondary school in Kankara, this was followed by the abduction of Islamiyya students in Dandume, and now it is students of the federal university Dutsinma.

The Wednesday morning incident involving these students could have been avoided due to the vigorous patrol of security operatives around the University.

But majority of the students are not accommodated within the school.

Recent intelligence reports indicate that three of the girls are from Kwara state, one from Kano and the other one from Jigawa.

The guardian of the three girls from Kwara State and a chieftain speaks on their ordeal and prayers for the safe return of the girls.

Although no contact has so far been established with the abductors or their demands made known the authorities say they are hopeful for the release of the students soon.
