Troops of Operation Delta Safe have seized one hundred thousand liters of artisanal refined crude oil in Rivers state.
Maritime patrol teams intercepted the barges used in conveying the stolen products along the waterways of Bonny Local Government Area.
The Bonny waters in Rivers State remain a major channel for merchants of stolen petroleum products to ply their trade.
It is for this reason that military presence is common sight in this area.
While on routine patrol, personnel of Operation Delta Safe spotted suspicious activity on 8 barges.
Closer scrutiny revealed content of the storage compartments to be illegally refined crude.
The war against crude oil theft might be far from over but this is a big win for Operation Delta Safe whose mandate is to protect oil and gas installations.
Military authorities say they’ll maintain vigilance until economic sabotage in form of oil theft is stopped.
No suspect was arrested but further investigation is expected to help identify those behind this latest seizure.
