Earlier this month, a national emergency warning said that 13 states would experience heavy rainfall and flash floods. Lagos was one of those listed.
Over the weekend, many neighbourhoods were flooded, and the internet was awash with videos showing the extent of the flooding.
When we visited one of these areas later, the water had gone down, but residents still shared their harrowing experience.
The Lagos state government had advised residents living in low-lying areas to move upland, adding that the rainfall predicted for this year was higher than the previous year.
But, experts attribute these unusual weather patterns to climate change and emphasize the need for more comprehensive measures to address its adverse effects.
