The Senate has asked its Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the alleged double voter registration by Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, despite his constitutional immunity.
The resolution followed the unanimous adoption of a Point of Order raised by Senator representing Yobe South, Mohammed Hassan at Wednesday’s plenary.
Senator Hassan said there was a need to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged double registration by the governor with a view to ensuring that the country’s electoral process was credible.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in his comment said the investigation is necessary because a credible electoral process is crucial in protecting the country’s democracy.
