The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has donated seized bags of rice, maize and soaps for distribution to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa state.Presenting the items to the state Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), the Area Comptroller of Customs for Adamawa and Taraba States, Adetoye Francis said the exercise was in compliance with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to alleviate the sufferings of IDPs in the country.
Owolabi Adenusi’s reports that 1,648 bags of rice, seven bags of maize and 642 cartons of soap were among items donated to the Internally Displaced Persons in Adamawa State.
The comptroller in charge of Adamawa and Taraba commands, while handing over the items to officials of ADSEMA for onward distribution urged them to use them for the purposes they were meant. He assured that the items had not expired and are fit for consumption.
Receiving the items, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, Haruna Furo, appreciated the gesture and assured that the agency would ensure judicious and equitable distribution.
Furo said the agency would distribute the items to IDPs in the camps and returnees in the seven local government areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency.
Although Adamawa State government has officially closed down two of the three existing IDP camps, extending the food items to the returnees in the seven ravaged local government areas would be of great assistance to the returnees who are struggling to pick up the pieces of their lives.
