President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate to explain the efforts made by him to end the killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue State.

The President’s letter was in response to the Senate’s resolutions on the spate of insecurity in Benue and other parts of the country.

Buhari recalled that he sent the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.) and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation, while he was briefed verbally by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

He said, the IG had briefed him verbally on the latest situation, informing that calm had been restored.

Meanwhile, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday said the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is determined to resolve the herdsmen-farmers clashes and return peace and order to the affected communities.

Osinbajo however implored citizens of the affected communities to embrace peace and not seek revenge.

He disclosed this while receiving a delegation led by the traditional rulers of Batta and Bachamma communities in Adamawa State.

The Vice President assured the affected communities that the Federal Government is looking at repairing the damage that has been done to the infrastructure of the communities and rehabilitate the people.
