Imo State restates Commitment to Infrastructure Development

The Imo State Government has started construction work on the newly awarded Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road.

Some residents of Egbu in Owerri North however say the major challenge the Government will face is payment of compensation due to crowded buildings near the road.

But the State Government while allaying their fears of completing the project in record time called for the cooperation of all stakeholders in the area.

The road is one of a number of roads that the Imo State has committed to constructing within the State.

In 2021, the Imo State Government had lagged off the construction of two major roads.

The dilapidated Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads with a completion timeline of 18 months.

While 13 months after Owerri-Orlu road is ready for Inauguration while Owerri-Okigwe road is also nearing completion.

The State Government recently, also flagged off the construction of two major Federal roads, Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia and Orlu-Akaokwa-Uga roads,

But residents of Egbu in Owerri North have expressed worry on the timeline for the completionm of the road with the elections drawing near.

They also want the Imo State Government to adequately compensate residents whose buildings will be affected due to the construction work.

For his part, the Imo State Commissioner For works, the Government is focused on completing the projects in record time.

He also appealed to the public to be patient with the prosperity Government.

The 22 kilometer Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga road and 46 kilometer Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road which are receiving the State Government’s attention are Federal roads but have been neglected by previous administrations.
