IGP-Senate-TVCNews.jpg2Nigeria’s Police Chief, Ibrahim Idris, finally appeared before the senate, adhoc committee, to answer questions of corruption allegations against him.

But it was not a particularly friendly session, as the IGP chose to tender documents, rather than speak or take questions from Senators.

Idris arrived the Senate hearing room with his lawyer, Alex Izinyon who represented him and presented documents on his behalf after the accused said he would not speak on the matter due to cases instituted in court.

But the lawyer was later shut down by the adhoc committee Chairman, Senator Francis Alimikhena from going further on behalf of the police chief.

The committee said the IGP was supposed to take questions and not present written documents but after a series of arguments, the documents were accepted and the committee adjourned until when necessary.

Senator Alimikhena later asked IGP Idris to make himself available whenever the committee needs him saying it would not hesitate to wield the big stick if he declines to honour future invitations to appear before it especially after it concludes studying the documents presented.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly, Senator Ita Enang who accompanied the Inspector General said the Presidency will pursue multi-door options to resolve the crisis amicably.
