Niger Delta Avengers ends ceasefire agreement with FG
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Niger Delta Avengers, a group of militants has announced an immediate end to its ceasefire with the Federal government.

The group said in a statement posted on its website on Friday, it would resume hostilities any day from now.

It says the Buhari administration has not been sincere with its peace talks and promises for the Niger Delta.

The group also condemned a former top militant in the region, Government Ekpemupolo, a.k.a. Tompolo, saying he had failed to live up to his leadership roles for those who seek absolute “emancipation” for the region.

Attacks on oil facilities in the region in 2016 cut Nigeria’s oil production from a 2.2 million barrels per day to one million barrels per day.

It accused the Nigerian government of working with a group, the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, which it described as fraudsters from the Niger Delta region.

The NDA alleged that the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers and the federal government were working to jeopardize the sincere efforts of the Niger Delta people at achieving economic, social and political freedom.

The militants named the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, as one of Nigerian government’s loyalists sabotaging its cause.

The tone and wordings these guys are using speak a huge ton of volume. Very strict, firm and precise. Their last display of hostility against the Fed didn’t augur well, particularly with the Fed’s economy. Situations looking forward appear very bleak as I speak. Who’ll blink or shift stance first?
