Over 90 percent private teachers in South West not qualified-TRCN

The registrar and chief executive of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria has revealed that majority of private school teachers are not qualified to teach in schools.

He made this known at a ceremony to sign a memorandum of Understanding between INSTIL Education on Teachers Registration in Abuja.

The registrar noted that the MOU will go a long way to impart to Nigeria teachers modern skills of teaching.

Day in day out the quality of Nigeria education system continues to decline.

A situation that is not only attributed to the lack of quality teaching materials but also the quality of teachers.

Parents today would rather have their wards in private schools which they believe give the best when compared to public Schools.

But the teachers Regulation Council has contradictory view, insisting that over 90 percent of private school teachers are not qualified to teach especially those in the South West.

As part of efforts to continue to improve teachers quality, it is partnering to instill Education.

The aim is to equip Nigerian teachers with 21st century skills that will ultimately support teacher professional development and learning outcomes in Nigeria and Africa in general.

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is a regulatory agency empowered by Act 31 of 1993 to regulate and control the teaching profession in all aspects and ramifications and at all levels of the Education system in Nigeria.
