Image result for Nigeria and MoroccoThe Senate has reiterated its support for the strengthening of political and economic relations between Nigeria and Morocco by inaugurating a friendship group between both nations.

Senate President Bukola Saraki made the commitment at the National Assembly on Wednesday on a day that Nigerian activists also visited the Senate to drum support for the independence of the disputed Western Sahara region of Morocco.

TVC News National Assembly Correspondent, Sumner Sambo reports that Nigeria has been a beautiful bride before Morocco in recent months with efforts by the North African country to woo businessmen and increase investments, economic and political relations in the country.

Following a visit by the King of Morocco last December to Nigeria and an exchange visit by Senate President Bukola Saraki in March, a Nigeria – Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group became necessary hence the Inauguration.

Parliamentarians from both countries are seeking a boost in bilateral relations especially on key issues like the Trans-Sahara gas pipeline and phosphate fertilizer projects.

But Nigerian activists also visited the Senate on the same-day kicking against relations between Nigeria and Morocco over the disputed Western Sahara region saying Nigeria should promote the independence of the Saharawi people.
