The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has given Julius Berger Construction company one month to deliver the permanent site of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.

Femi Gbajabiamila expressed disappointment over the failure of the contractor to get the site ready after many years of delay.

In 2013, the leadership of the National Assembly awarded the contract for a befitting permanent site for the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies as a parliamentary academic and research institution.

The project was billed to be delivered in two years, but ten years on, the edifice located on 8.2 hectares of land remains about 90 per cent completed.

The Speaker’s visit is to assess how well the remaining 10% of the work had gone in preparation for President Muhammadu Buhari’s anticipated commissioning of the structure.

The company insists the government reneged on its promise to pay N7.5 billion which would enable it complete the job.

But the Speaker accused the company of frustrating Mr. President’s readiness to commission the project before leaving office on the 29th of May.

The Director General of NILDS described the company’s reluctance to complete the job as disappointing.

The Representatives of the company declined to speak on camera but the Consultant says the bone of contention between the two parties is funding.

The structure includes four 250-seat lecture rooms, a library, a research center, an administrative block, and a well-equipped conference room, as well as offices for Institute staff and members of its governing board.

The Speaker has issued a marching order for the construction company to deliver the project in thirty days to enable President Buhari commission it before leaving office by May 29.

The construction company, Julius Berger insists Mr Gbajabiamila’s directive is a tall order.
