IoT will revamp health sector, NACC assures

The Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, NACC, has said that an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled healthcare sector will help bridge the gap and ensure a revamp of the Nigerian health sector.

Speaking at the 2017 August breakfast meeting, President of NACC, Chief Olabintan Famutimi, said the session themed: “Transforming lives with Internet of Things: The Heart of a Digital Healthcare Revolution”, is very topical at a period when the country id battling high rate of medical tourism, among other challenges that cause disrepute to the country’s health care sector and increase the average mortality rate.

He said the Nigerian healthcare sector needs to adapt to remain competitive, viable and attract the right level of professionals required to transform the sector. He called for revision of the medical curriculum  to include modules on Information and Communication Technology as it relates to healthcare. “This ensures that medical students graduating already have an idea of new age technology that can help them effectively in dispensing their obligations.

“To help doctors and patients better manage their time, resources and health, the Internet of Things provides the solution.” The Managing Director, Vodacom Business Nigeria, Mr. Lanre Kolade, said Vodacom IoT solutions enables businesses to develop into high powered organisations by removing geographical and time barriers through technology. “With IoT, you can link almost any type of remote machine or devices to critical information systems and collect real-time data that can help you to optimise production and increase visibility throughout your supply chain.
