The Katsina state government is taking measures to ensure Teachers remain within the Teaching profession.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari, made this disclosure, while receiving a report from the Education Restoration Committee.
Masari, who indicated that it was one of the steps taken to address the inadequacy of teachers in the state, believes it is high time a Primary school Teacher aspired towards earning monthly salaries, equivalent to that of a Director in the state civil service.
The Governor believes Teachers should take pride in their profession. He also urges them to complement government efforts and appreciate the huge financial resources being pumped into the education sector.
Masari appeals to those who have retired from the teaching profession, to also consider offering free teaching services to their respective communities.
The Governor maintains that the recent resolve of his administration to suspend paying for NECO and WAEC registration fees for Students in public schools is to encourage Parents to closely monitor the educational performance of their Children. He expresses the intention to liase with the National Assembly to advocate for reduction in Senior Secondary school Examination registration fees.
Chairman of the Education restoration committee, reveals that the Masari administration has expended more than 10 billion naira in the education sector, and up to 250 Schools have witnessed infrastructure development within the last two years.
He observes that at least more than 900 Teachers are needed to teach the core subjects of English language and Mathematics, but the current number is below what is required.
The Committee chairman believes sustaining the present tempo of promoting teachers in the state will act as a means of motivation.
