A 60-day countdown has started for the federal ministry of works and housing and road construction companies rehabilitating highways and bridges in Lagos.

One highway causing commuters a lot of headache is the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. With construction work ongoing at three sections of the first phase, the Lagos state government is asking the ministry of works to come up with strategic traffic plans to ease the hardship commuters face.

It was a showdown between the Lagos state government and the Federal Government’s ministry of works and housing, the bone of contention is the adverse traffic gridlock occasioned by construction works all over the state.

The stress and tension of the traffic gridlock is having a negative effect on the people and the spillover effect is getting to the government.

The State government is seeking for a better way to do the job and save commuters from pain experienced daily along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Eko bridge, Marine bridge and other highways due for maintenance.

The federal ministry of works and housing says the contractors are trying to work around tight schedules.

The ministry is hoping to deliver the first phase of the project before the rainy season starts.

Commuters along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway may have to make do with two lanes, sometimes narrowed one lane available till the 29th of May.
