The President-Elect has been advised to invest more on Polytechnic and technical education in order to build a sustainable nation with job opportunities for the youth and provide solutions to technological problems in society.
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Mikhail Akinde made this known during the matriculation of the Institution.
For Nigeria to have a secured future, the country must invest heavily on Polytechnic education and ensure that technical and vocational skills are imparted into the youth
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro made this known at the sideline of the Institution’s matriculation when he advised the President Elect on how to further build a sustainable economy and create job opportunities in the country.
He said with proper funding, the polytechnic sector will provide more skilled manpower, entrepreneurs and employer of labour in the society.
While speaking on poor power supply as another major challenge confronting the growth of Polytechnic education, the Rector said with adequate power supply they will be able to train more young Nigerians on how to fabricate, repair and invent machines that can be of economic benefits to the society.
The newly admitted students were also admonished to acquire knowledge that will help them proffer solutions to some of the challenges confronting the country and to contribute their quota to the development of the country.
NCDMB TAX AWARENESS WORKSHOP
The need to prioritize research development in the oil and gas sector has been re-emphasized by industry players present at the 2023 Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Suppliers’ Tax awareness workshop held by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board in partnership with The Federal Inland Revenue Service in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The event, held in partnership with the Federal Inland Revenue Service at the conference Hall of the Local Content Tower in Yenagoa, provides a platform to engage oil and gas industry stakeholders on Tax incentives available to Nigerian companies that invest in research and development.
The constraints of investing, as well as royalty potentials embedded in R&D investments are also explored by some panelists at the occasion.
With Nigeria’s R&D investment currently below 0.2 percent, the need to amplify its task incentives for research in the oil and gas industry is imperative for increased local involvement in the sector.
E-PROJECT LAUNCHED TO PROVIDE SAFE PLAFORM FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS
A human rights project aimed at promoting the rights of Nigerians in the digital sphere, harnessing opportunities and addressing challenges provided by new technologies, has been launched.
The e-right project is to provide a safe platform for human rights defenders to report and monitor issues of digital rights breaches.
The enhancing digital rights in Nigeria project formally known as the e-rights project is being implemented by lawyers without borders France, with the support of the European Union in Nigeria.
It is aimed at monitoring issues of data privacy breaches, cyber threats, internet shutdowns and threats to the social media space and to ensure prompt response to cases reported.
To achieve this, a situation room of CSOs, lawyers, academics, tech platforms providers and government partners was established for effective collaboration and coordination of digital rights issues.
Today the e-rights project has officially been launched.
The target groups and beneficiaries of this project are lawyers and judges, activists, government agencies, social media influencers, Nigerian internet users as well as students, the private sector and victims of digital threats.
The implementation area of the project is the FCT, Lagos, Kano and Imo States.
Cyberbullying, stalking and harassment area some of the attendant effects of digitalization, most notably social media.
The target outcome of this project is to create an enabling environment for the enjoyment of digital rights in Nigeria.
