Portugal declared Sunday a three-day national mourning as catastrophic forest fires have so far claimed the lives of 62 people.
Hundreds of firefighters are now continuing to tackle the blaze on several fronts.
These forest fires have become one of the most fatal in recent memories.
At their height, 156 forest fires drew nearly 1,700 firefighters to try to contain them.
Many of the forest fire victims were found inside their cars or just next to their motor vehicles on a small section of road leading up to a motorway.
The forest fires began late on Saturday. Though the root cause is yet to be confirmed, the blistering heat-wave certainly saw the fires spread rapidly.
Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa refused to talk more about the cause of the fires before any result of a thorough investigation comes out, saying that what must be done now is to calmly provide all the resources to fight the fires in face of the greatest tragedy of human lives.
Spanish authorities are assisting Portugal by providing water bombing planes to tackle the fires. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy promised to provide any support necessary.
