Jermain Defoe is set to net a seven million dollars signing-on fee and wages of 104,000 dollars per week after agreeing terms with Bournemouth.
The 34-year-old – who can leave Sunderland on a free transfer following the club’s relegation – will sign a two-year deal with the option of a third, which would take him beyond his 37th birthday.
There was interest from West Ham but the Cherries have moved quickly to snap up their former loanee, who played alongside current boss Eddie Howe during a season-long stay as a teenager in which he scored 19 times.
Defoe wants to play regularly in the Premier League to keep alive his hopes of winning a place in the England squad for next summer’s World Cup.
