Veteran French centrist, Francois Bayrou has arrived at the headquarters of president-elect as Emmanuel Macron’s camp get ready for the forthcoming legislative elections in June.
Bayrou, who ran three times for presidency but never managed to reach the second round, offered an alliance with Macron back in late February, in a move that was seen as giving a boost to the former investment banker’s campaign.
Bayrou is mistrusted by many on the right for having rejected an alliance with the conservatives despite being a minister under Jacques Chirac, and for calling on his supporters to back the Socialist candidate Francois Hollande in the 2012 election.
