The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has said that its youths transformation training programme is capable of curbing insecurity among dwellers in its focus states.
The HYPPADEC Head of Community Development, Mr Ibrahim Babangida-Ibrahim disclosed this during a 2-day training of trainers in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
Unemployment and idleness have forced many youths into crime.
This does not help the worsening insecurity situation in the country.
Now, the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission is stepping in with its own strategies towards stemming the tide.
This explains why it is organizing this training of trainers with the intent that the training will permeate to the target population.
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) is among the agencies enlisted enlisted for the training.
Some of the trainees will be attached to NDE-trained artisans to train and sharpen their skills.
HYPPADEC focus states are Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, and Niger states, while selected local government areas of the commission’s activities in Kwara state include Patigi, Kaiama, Moro, Baruten, Edu and Ilorin East local government areas.
HYPPADEC was established to address the development challenges faced by States who produce the nations’ Hydro-Electric power of over 3000Mw.
The commission has since inception been working to empower and train Youth, Artisans and Government technocrats on how to enhance the capacity of people within the various communities and ensure people are gainfully employed and engaged.
This engagement according to observers will ensure that the cases of Youth restiveness are minimised to the barest minimum.
