It’s more trouble for some of Gambia’s former strongmen, as citizens have intensified calls for their execution on charges of the death of a political activist, Solo Sandeng.
Family members, sympathizers and friends of Sandeng, made the demand outside the Banjul court, where the strongmen were being tried on Monday.
Yankuba Bajie, a former boss of the National Intelligence Agency, is accused of carrying out arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances and torture during Yahya Jammeh’s rule.
The NIA’s former director of operations, Saiku Omar Jeng who is also on trial, has denied killing Sandeng.
The court granted an extension to state prosecutors to find a foreign expert to re-examine Sandeng’s body.
Sandeng died in custody last April after his arrest, for leading a peaceful protest for political reform.
The case has been adjourned till next Monday.
