Experts on ground to speak at Gani Fawehinmi Lecture

The 19th edition of the Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) Annual Lecture is billed to start off shortly in Lagos.

Governors of Lagos and Rivers state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Nyesom Wike are among the prominent Nigerians confirmed to grace the event.

The annual event organized by the NBA Ikeja branch is held to preserve the outstanding legacies of the late fiery activist, to the development of law, legal profession and the protection of human rights.

Gani Fawehinmi was a renowned lawyer, activist, writer, publisher, philanthropist and social critic who died in 2009 at the age of 71.

 

This year’s theme is: Free, Fair and Credible Election as an Indispensable Tool for National Development.”

The Keynote speaker at Sunday’s event is the United Nations’ International Elections Commissioner, Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei.

Also billed to speak are, former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom state, Mike Igini; and Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, a Public Affairs Analyst & Commentator.

Governor Sanwo-Olu will be the Chief host, the President of the NBA, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, is the Host. The Chairman of the occasion will be Professor Akin Oyebode, who’s a former Vice Chancellor of University of Ado-Ekiti.

 

Catholic priest killed, assistant left with bullet wounds in Niger state.

Christians in Niger state have been sent into mourning following the barbaric killing of a Catholic priest reverend father Isaac Achi, the parish priest of saints Peter and Paul Catholic church in kafin koro, paikoro local government council of Niger state.

The church was attacked around 12am on Sunday morning. The assistant parish priest reverend father Collins Umeh was also shot severally and left to die before the parish priest was traced to his bathroom shot, macheted and burnt together with the church building.

The priest was the coordinator of the Christian Association of Nigeria in kafin koro.
According to a local source the terrorist group have been on the trail of the priest for a while .
The assistant parish priest who was also shot has been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The Niger state police command is yet to make an official statement regarding the attack
