Elections will go ahead as planned, No postponement -INEC

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmoud Yakubu, says there is no plan to postpone the 2023 general election.

The Commission is also emphatic that the timetable for the elections remains sacrosanct.

INEC made the clarification at the formal presentation of a clean Voters Register of 93, 469, 008 to political parties in Abuja.

Section 10 sub section 6 of the newly enacted Electoral Act, mandates INEC to present a clean register of would be voters to political parties well ahead of any election.

It is in fulfilment of this provision that INEC is meeting with representatives of political parties.

Nigeria now has 93, 469, 008 registered voters.

Lagos state takes the lead with 7, 060, 195 and it is followed by Kano with 5, 921, 370 while Kaduna is just behind with 4, 335, 208 registered voters.

In the last forty eight hours, INEC has been at the centre of discussions regarding its fears that rising insecurity may compel a shift in the 2023 general election which is about six weeks away.

This has generated widespread reactions, even from the government of the day, which insists nothing will jeopardise the elections.

The INEC Chairman comes out to clarify INEC’s position, expressing its resolve to forge ahead with the elections.

He says anything contrary position, is a personal opinion

The Political parties applaud the efforts of the Commission so far and promise their continued support towards achieving set goals.

They promise to scrutinise the INEC document as they affirm their support for the elections to hold as scheduled.

EWEKORO RESIDENTS ENDORSE DAPO ABIODUN FOR OGUN GOVERNOR AGAIN

Residents of Obada-Oko, Papalanto, Itori and environs in Ewekoro Local Government area of Ogun State have promised to vote massively in support of the the Governor of the State, Dapo Abiodun and all other candidates of the party.

They made this known during the APC Campaign to the area where the Governor also commissioned the 2-kilmeter Itori internal road.

The campaign of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State to Ewekoro local Government area was like a carnival, as residents, traditional rulers, party chieftains and supporters trooped out in their large numbers to show solidary to the party and the Governor.

Starting from Obada Oko where the campaign kicked off to Papalanto and then Itori, the people say they are ready to deliver the candidates of the APC.

Politicians in the local government and the Senatorial district were also full of appreciation.

The Governor and his team also used the opportunity of the campaign to inaugurate the 2 kilometer Ewekoro local government area road.

The road connects the local government secretariat and the Olu Itori Palace to the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway and serves as the major byepass within Itori Community.
