The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is in a meeting with the acting Director General of the National youth service Corp to officially smoothen the participation of Corp members as ad-hoc staff in the upcoming general elections.
For over two decades, INEC has partnered with NYSC for the mobilization of Corp members to various parts of the country during the conduct of elections.
Youth corp members form 90% of the workforce during elections.
The Chairman of INEC noted that the country can not conduct a successful election without the youth Corp members.
The introduction of more technology in the country’s electoral system increasingly requires the partnership of INEC and NYSC.
INEC has promised to recruit the service of Corp members with disabilities, those who are willing to participate in the exercise.
On her part, acting Director of NYSC Christy Uba stressed the need for the security and safety of Corp members participating in the election.
The NYSC has directed its State coordinators to liaise with the DSS to identify crisis-prone areas.
