Police operatives in Zamfara have recovered live ammunition hidden in a groundnut sack which was thrown on the Funtua -Tsafe highway by fleeing armed bandits being trailed by Security operatives
One Bandit was also neutralised while six others were apprehended at different points, among them are foot soldiers of notorious bandit Kingpins Bello Turji and Halilu Kachalla
The first Successes for the year 2023 were recorded by the Zamfara police command as Suspects were arrested on the first and second January
Those arrested are suspected to be foot soldiers of notorious bandit kingpins Bello Turji and Halilu Kachalla operating in the Zamfara forests.
Parading the Suspects at the police command in Gusau, some of the Suspects confessed to having participated in different attacks and Kidnappings for ransom in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Niger and other Northern states
Among them are those who blocked Yandoto – Tsafe road and abducted nine persons Including children on new year day
The suspects say they are only paid stipends out of huge ransom paid to their leaders
The police says live ammunition hidden in a groundnut sack and covered with clothes, was also intercepted and six Suspects involved in Banditry and Kidnapping were also arrested at different points
The police also repelled attacks on two Local Government areas, Maru and Gusau
Riffles, live ammunition, Magazines, assorted chams, cutlasses among other weapons were recovered
Despite efforts by Security operatives, to curb crime in Zamfara, there have been recent attacks on some Communities and highways, including the Kidnap of a retired army colonel and his children
The police appeals to the General public especially road users to cooperate with security Operatives at check points in order to checkmate the activities of criminal elements.
